Max drove us to 67 Killiney Road for lunch today.

The old man was looking lost as he counted his days as Grab driver, insisting he would never drive again.

It was a claim we heard for the 18th time this year, but still chose to believe as we were in a good mood.

67 Killiney Road, near Somerset MRT, is a time-honored Hainanese F&B joint set up in 1919, known for its potent Nanyang coffee and crispy charcoal-grilled toasts.

Over the years, it's menu has expanded to include local favourites such as Mee Siam, Nasi Lemak and Laksa.

Upon reaching 67, the two curry maniacs pushed and shoved to order their all time favourite curry chicken.

Max and I just sat down at table 19, inhaling the light drizzly breeze.

Not a fan of chicken, Max went for eggs and kaya butter toast.

We love sampling Killiney curry chicken island-wide; they all tasted different.

Question: Which outlet do you think produces the best curry chicken in downtown Singapore? Eugene and Alan concurred that the one at Lucky Plaza reins supreme.

Gravy full of lemongrass fragrance, not as creamy as that from Duo Tower (at Bugis MRT) nor as watery as this from 67.

"But this is the actual traditional Hainanese curry... balls," said the chief cook, as he dipped his toast in delight.

"Just a bit of turmeric," he added, before changing topic to Mexican's national pride.

We had an enjoyable lunch with conversations centered mostly around Max and his immediate future after Grab - if he returned his Toyota Vios.

Activities include binge watching Netflix on his big screen, rewiring his house, talking to strangers in the park and exposing CCP's propaganda...

Staying awake after the heavy meal, with an upcoming interview at 230pm, we ordered coffee takeout and sped back to office.

Would it indeed be our last time sitting in 8805? It depends which direction the wind blows.
