Sinsuran Porky Pig noodles

Day 5

Bubu's sardine-packed schedule on Day 5 meant a free and easy exploration for Eu and I at Sinsuran, an area popular for its Sang Nyuk Mee or 生肉麵 (porky pig noodles).

Setting off from The Luma Hotel, we reached Jia Siang 家香生肉面 - arch-rival of nearby Sinsuran Sang Nyuk Mee 新蘇蘭生肉麵. Eugene was dressed in their uniform. Ready to work part-time.

Comparing the two eateries is like comparing Yakun to Killiney. Coke to Pepsi. ABC to Value$. Yes, now you get it!

Jia Siang was packed with lunchtime crowd, but we managed to find a seat.

I got my favourite meatball noodles with slices of jade white pork. It tasted acceptable with Teh cino gula melaka. Eu went for heavy-duty Hairy Porker carepack noodles and a cup of barley.

I enjoyed the food. But I had issue with the chilli that wasn't spicy!

The look of love is in your spice.

There were little we could do after our 生肉面. Eu and I started exploring the scorching Sinsuran heartland. We found vintage phone booths without rotary dial phones.

They are the landmark of Sinsuran. If you have not taken a selfie here, you have not come to Sinsuran! Yes! Kidding.

We entered a bakery to escape the heat.

Out of boredom, I bought a bun, expecting it to taste as premium as it costs.

Sinsuran was too boring. We grabbed to Suria Sabah for last minute shopping.

It would be our last night in Sabah. Bubu invited Xinru for dinner to thank her for driving us around.

As I had flipped heads 3X in a row - giving the Filipino Market a miss - we visited Welcome Seafood, near Holiday Inn Express.

Food came with heavy seasoning which covered up the natural sweetness of seafood. The restaurant was lively and noisy with big families. Mostly tourists.

We ordered prawns, sotong, geoduck, chicken. There were no live seafood. Good.

After our dinner, we were shocked to see crayfish or prawns inside 1.5 litre bottles. Bubu said they were raised inside. The label read 老虎虾 😰

We waved Xinru goodbye and promised to bring her to the Filipino Market next time.

We checked in KKIA the next morning, concluding our 5 days of Sabahan exploration. The journey to Singapore would Scoot about 2 hours.

It was a happy memorable trip for Bubu and myself. A warm-up vacation for Eu before he headed to BKK. As our plane took off, Bubu took a video of her country of birth.

What did I dislike most about Sabah?

Porbably this cup... at least they should put Mt Kinabalu or Proboscis monkey or Rosmah's face.

Why would Starbucks show a Rafflesia, sia...?!?

Thanks for reading, till then! 🐻
